Last Minute Inspiration...

I really like the photo on this album cover. I have took inspiration from it and took a similar picture for my front cover. I think it really represents my band and looks really original and effective.

Album Cover Conventions...

Cover analysis...

This cover is actually a cover for the wombats single "Lets dance to joy division". The reason it jumped out at me is because of its black and white background and image, and also the fact that it has a bright coloured font. I really like the idea of having black and white in the background and a bright font in the foreground because it makes it look eye-catching and less boring. This has been really inspirational for me and have now decided that aswell as using a black and white background i will also use a bright font to make it really stand out and make it so that its the first thing that hits the audience's eyes.

More Poster Inspiration...

I want my poster to be black and white as i feel that it gives an authentic and vintage style to the pictures. The style i want to use is quite simple and similar to the ones below. I dont want to make it too complicated or busy as i feel that if i do it wont match the style of my music video.

Final Draft..

After endless hours of work my final draft of my music video was completed in time to hand in...i was very pleased with the outcome compared to my first draft, and i think that all the hard work in the last couple of weeks paid off in the end. Iwill get my videoonto youtube and then ontohere as soon as possible!

New Storyboard....

Feedback....

Level 1

-Poorly Constructed
-Very Confusing
-Incomplete
-Lip syncing ineffective
-3 girls (what's going on?)
Struggles to get out of level 1-Poor

1.Holding a shot steady, where appropriate-sometimes?
2.Framing a shot as appropriate-not enough
3.using a variety of shot distances (w.a)
4.Shooting material appropriate to task set-NO
5.Selecting mise en scene-Poor mise en scene
6. Editing so meaning is apparent-NO
7.Using varied shot transitions, captions, effects-selectively + appropriately-NO
8.Using aound with images and editing appropriately-NO

START AGAIN!

-Keep it in one place
-Make best use of girls (Emotions in face!)
-Some performance (Drum/keyboard being played)
-Mise en scene-KEY

Recieving this feedback wasnt a shock to me. Because of not being able to actually finish my video and only completing about 50 seconds of it, to a very poor standard, the mark and level was pretty much what i was expecting. I belive that i can do better than that, and for the final thing i will start again and make it alot simpler and less confusing for the audience. I will stick to one loctaion and make it more of a performance video rather than one with a narrative.

Planning Filming...

From speaking to Mr Smith last week, i intend to use the crystal castles video as inspiration. I want to still use some of the shots i have already done, but i want to also use new ideas i have from the crystal castles video. The nights are getting darker sooner, but this wont be a problem as i want to film in the dark anyway.

Simple but Effective...

This album cover really inspires me. It is very simple but really effective. My favourite part about it is the plainness of the model on the front. Her hair and make-up (even though it probably has been done) looks as though she's just literally got out of her bed, it just looks really natural and not obvious. Her costume is also plain and all you can see is the top half of her body. The way she is standing is also very natural. She isn't posing in a certain way, it looks like she's just standing there and is surprised of the picture being took. The colours are again very bland and pale...The colours in the background go from dark to pale when getting closer to the model to maybe match the tone of her skin/colours that she's wearing. The bold and straightforward font looks eye-catching and would be easy and quick to create.

Crystal Castles...

Today, Mr Smith gave me some advice using this Crystal Castles video as an example. Because I'm working on my own, he suggested that i keep my video simple, which i totally agree with. He showed me this video, and said that it would be brilliant if i could do something similar. This video is simple but effective and it would be less stressful for me to do something like this.

Digipak Research...

A Digipak is a style of CD case. They consist of a cardboard outer binding and plastic trays that hold the CD. They are more environmentally friendly than a standard plastic case and are more aesthetically pleasing.

Album Cover research...

This is an album cover by the arctic monkeys. This album "favourite worst nightmare" is the monkeys second studio album and was released in April 2007. This album is probably the most popular one by the monkeys. I think the album artwork represents mainly one of the songs on this album "this house is a circus". Seeing as the cover is mainly taken over by a house and what looks like a circus inside of it, it jumps out at me that this album artwork is most probably inspired by that song in particular. This has now inspired me to think about one of "Iris Polly's"songs and take my ideas from that to put on my front cover.

Ladyhawke's album cover for her studio album "ladyhawke" is a favourite of mine because its so random. The only part that really gives me some inspiration is the fact that this cover was made using watercolour. Obviously i don't want my album cover to be all watercolour based. However i do think that i could use a watercolour effect on my album cover, as it gives the cover an original effect.

This album cover by "The Drums" is for their debut album released in June this year. Although its a simple cover, it really matches their ideas. I think by just looking at it, is that it would be quite easy to create. Even though its very simplistic (like some of their video's) it is so effective and original. If i could get letters like that, i would really think about doing something similar to this.

"The Libertines" is the second album by the British indie rock band The Libertines. Released in August 2004, it particularly shows the relationship between two members of the band, Pete Doherty and Carl Barat. This album instantly reached number 1 in the U.K. The thing i like about this and all of the libertines artwork is the font. The font that the band use to promote anything of theirs, is really bold and eye-catching and is what you instantly see when looking at album covers and posters etc.

Stand-In Character...

This is Lotte Harvey. My stand-in for my draft music video. As stated before my usual characters couldn't make it to the last part of the filming i had to do before my draft deadline. Because of this Lotte stood in and really helped me out. I asked Lotte because i thought she could pull off the indie rock star look, and would also act well in the making of my music video.

Update...

Today i finished editing the footage that i have filmed. Tomorrow i will be filming some more of my music video. I will however be using a different actress as my characters cannot make it to the filming and i just need to film this so that i can give teachers and peers a sense of what i want to create, and so they can give me some feedback. Therefore, tomorrow will be my second location on waterworks lane in Lutterworth. I chose to use this because i think it looks quite derelict and it doesn't get very busy, so it will be ideal to film there, as there won't be many passers by.

Friday's Filming....

Friday's filming went really well....i managed to film most of the outdoor shots which was good. Sunday's filming didn't go to plan as one of my characters was ill, therefore filming that was planned to be done on Sunday, will now be done today. Because of my character's busy work and college schedules this is the only time i can do it before the draft deadline. Because of this, i may not get chance film all footage needed.

Black and white...

I have picked out all these different images because they all inspire me in some way. Some of them are from music and some are from fashion. I am thinking about using black and white on my album cover. Beacuse of this i have been looking for inspiration and have put my ideas all together on a moodboard. I have tried to focus on pictures that give off more of an indie feel more than anything else. They have inspired me to really think about using black and white, because i think that it makes the pictures look vintage and i also think it will appeal to my audience.

Album cover research...

I really like this album cover for "lungs" of florence and the machine's. This was her first debut album and i think that its just so creative and inspirational. The bit i most like on this cover are where they show the lungs to show the album name in more detail. I dont think that once you've seen this cover, you'd ever really forget what it looked like, because its so bold and really stands out on the shelves.

YYY's album covers...

This is they YYY's first album cover. As you can say it really relates to the type of music they play/song. It's very wacky and busy. There's lots of things going on and is also very colourful/bold.

This is the YYY's second album cover. This cover is also very bright and bold. However, its not as busy and there's not really much going on. I can imagine this album cover was relatively easy to make compared to their first one. (one above)

The YYY's third and most recent album cover is this one. This is very plain a simple. However, the creativity put into it is very clever. I also think this album cover was fairly easy to create.

I think that apart from the first one, these covers have nothing to do with the band or the song which is what is so good and creative about them.

Twitter account...

Today i set up a twitter account for my band...

....I did this because i felt that it would give my band a real sort of fan base. It also helps to tell people my thoughts about my music video and lets people get to know my band, so that they know what to expect from them.

Emailing for permission...

As stated a couple of weeks ago, i contacted the YYY's and asked for permission to use their song. I have now finally recieved a reply back, and also replyed back again to the lady who i spoke to stating which band im interested in, as apparently its not just a contact for the YYY'S.

Ideas...

This is a picture of Ladyhawke. I really like the black and white version of this picture. I want to create something like this for the front of my album cover, as i feel it really represents the sort of artists/genre my band are. This is also the look i want to create. The clothes Ladyhawke is wearing here, are similar to what my characters are wearing in the video. I will follow a similar thing on for my album cover and poster, but will maybe change and adjust some of the clothing, but still keeping it really bold and indie.

Questionnaire For Audience Feedback...

I will also print off copies of this ready to give my class when its time to feedback.

Iconic Imagery...

These pictures of the libertines really inspire me. I really like the use of not having colour, as i think it gives off an old, retro look to the picture, which would be great to use on my poster and album cover. I think the setting's in these pictures are very easy to create. Most of them are set on street's which would be easy to use as a setting, because there are endless streets/places to use.

These pictures of the Ramones are also very inspirational to me. I really like how in the 3rd picture i have they have used quite a random setting. In most of their pictures/posters they stand infront of a brick wall, so i think that the messy scene is something different and plays along with their genre of music really well. Another thing i'd like to point out is that most of their pictures are in black and white, i think this also helps to give off a old rocky feel.

I think all these pictures obviously appeal to people who like Indie/rock music. The unique and individual feel to the pictures is what makes them different. I think teenagers who like indie or rock music would really appreciate the difference in these photos. I think what they are wearing, the set and the colours of the photos are what make them iconic and what appeals to the audience. The set especially makes them look of an indie/rock genre, because it's so random and creative. The leather jacket and the jeans that they wear are also what makes them look iconic.

New Plans...

As i stated before about not having a camera to work with during half-term, i will now be filming thursday and friday of this week, and also sunday...this will then give me a week to edit before the deadline.
