Sophie. You need to cracking on your actual coursework.
In terms of indie female artists theirs a big range, though their styles are often a million miles apart.
You've got Florence and the Machine, Kate Nash, Feist, Karen O (Yeah Yeah Yeah's), Cat Power, Regina Spektor, Joanna Newsome and lots of ex Indie stars with Sleeper, Echobelly, Lush, Kenickie and Elastica.
You might need to try and pin down a style you favour.
Good choice. Now you'll need to invent a band who just happen to sing a song which is actually a Yeah, Yeah, Yeah's track. You demonstrated a strong sense of style last year with your magazine, whether you could use those models again I don't know.
The Ting Tings had a strong visual, as did Crystal Castles, Andrew WK's only real hit Party Hard (which in terms of sound is nothing like indie) visually has a strong image in the form of his album cover in the background, finally Peaches (her lyrics are very explicit so be warned) also has a strong image, if you watch Talk To Me you'll spot paralells with your magazine.
From your mixpod it's clear you like a certain style of indie with strong rhythm based around an under produced sound. Look beyond the Yeah, Yeah Yeahs for inspiration.
