These video's are all very similar to ladyhawke's video for "my delirium" what i have used on my blog for inspiration. These video's were all produced before ladyhawke's and so i assume the producer of ladyhawke's video must of been very inspired by all three. Especially, the cardigans video for "my favourite game". As you can see in parts ladyhawke's video is almost exactly the same as this. The others are also similar for the car shots.

The genre characteristics that are evident in this video are what they are wearing. You can tell that its of an indie genre because of their clothes and the fact the video is set in what looks like a derelict scenery, which is what i want to try and create. The relationship between the lyrics and the visuals is disjuncture. The meaning of the song "VCR" is completely ignored. The visual style of the song is very indie, so there tends to be more of a need to have quite few close-ups of the band or the lead vocalist. This video is an indie, quite depressing video.
This part of the song has a lot of off beat editing. The beat of the song in the first few seconds is quite sow, and the editing is just that little bit faster. The lengths of the shots are quite short, and the genre is reflected through the mise-en-scene and the props. The mise-en-scene and the fact that the video is in black and white maybe represents how the characters are feeling.
In this part of the video there is a heavy use of tracking dollies and long shots. The camera work in this part of the video is very varied. In contains close-ups, long shots and mid shots whilst also containing tracking shots. At this point the video is starting to create some sort of storyline/narrative although it still seems to be quite random. The editing also starts to become a little more synchronised with the action.
At this point in the video, colours start to come into things. Before the whole thing was in black and white. The story has now become a little clearer, and i think its a boy girl split up, and then get back together story. I think the black and white was used to represent their unhappiness when apart, then when they make up things become more clearer and bright and start to become a little more colourful. The camera work in this part is still varied and they have used quite alot of different angles.
Near the end of the video, the story becomes even more random when they start to bring animals into it. Overall this video doesn't really make any sense to me, but i think that's why i like it so much. Its a very abstract video as there is no clear narrative and no lip syncing. The lyrics establish more of a general feeling rather than a meaning. I think this part of the video gives off that the mise-en-scene is reflecting their feelings, which is why the animals were involved. This part as well as the whole of the video really has off beat editing and it isn't really syncronised with the action either.
This video is a stage performance, which shows the genre characteristics. What they are wearing and what they are playing also shows the genre. The relationship between the lyrics and the visuals shows disjuncture. In this video the meaning of the song is completely ignored and its just a stage performance with an audience. The visual style is the need for a lot of close-ups of the band. There are a lot of still images in this video.
In this part of the video the shots are of a very short length. The tempo of the music drives the editing and the shot change is on beat. The genre in this part is reflected in the mise-en-scene and the editing style. The camera work is all very close-up to the band or the audience. Also in this part of the video they're repeated images and shots of the audience and the band. This is a performance video as it's set at a performance, on stage in front of the audience.
In this chop of the video. The camera work starts off to be in slow-motion and the lengths of the shots are long. At the beginning of this part there is a heavy use of tracking dollies making different camera angles. The camera work is used to show the band rather than the audience. This is also part of a performance video, as its on a stage in front of an audience. This has no narrative to it.
This video has a documentary feel to it. It contains a montage effect which is what i want to create. This particular part of the video has a lot of close-ups and mid shots of the band especially. It represents the fact that this video is a performance video.
These are the lyrics to my chosen song. With them being on here i can access them easier than if they were on youtube. From here my characters can also learn some of the lyrics that they have to lip sync.
This video has been very inspirational to me. I want to try and create the same sort of scene in my video, so having it on my blog will be useful to me. As i say this video inspires me greatly. However, the thing that is very inspirational to me is definitely the scene. I really like how they've set the scene to match the genre, and how it's really simple but so effective. The setting is very plain, but it really suits the type of song and the lyrics with it. This sort of thing is what i want to try and re-create for my video.
